Our Date with Oscar

25 Feb

Last night Darling hosted the yearly Oscar party which has been a tradition for at least the last five years. After much flurrying about the house, moving furniture, rolling miniature weiners in blankets, mixing cookie dough, stabbing cucumber with toothpicks along with other delicacies and setting the wine out, the gals began to gather.

I waited patiently for Johnny Depp to pop up on screen and when he did we ooohed and ahhed over his handsomeness and devilish appearance (how he manages to do both at the same time is beyond me). He looked much like this, only in a tuexdo.

We all decided Javier Bardem is much cuter in a tux and with stubble than he was in No Country for Old Men.

We wondered why we can never see Renee Z’s eyes and why Nicole Kidman’s necklace was caddywompus during her time on stage.

We erupted with clapping and cheering when Falling Slowly from Once won the best Original Song (and good news! They really are dating).

While there were no real surprises and no one came close to the 72 points possible on our ballots it was great to gather with Darling and her friends.

Have I mentioned lately that I really like party planning??

And to leave you with my favorite part of last night (if this doesn’t make you want to see the movie, I don’t know what will. It’s only 85 minutes long. You can spare that.)
