I’m kind of in a happy, bubbly place lately thanks to, well, loving life and everything and everyone around me (and well, the fact that many of my friends have awesome happy, bubbly things going on for them) so I’m sharing some of my favorite quotes and sayings I’ve stumbled across lately….

What’s inspiring you lately?

Ten on Tuesday: Random Edition Vol II

30 Nov

Happy Tuesday! Thanks as always to Chelsea over at Roots & Rings for hosting/putting this together.

1. Where are you from? Have you lived there your whole life?
Currently I live in STL, where I’ve resided since 1993 (except for 3.5 years when I went to college). Prior to that we lived in Orlando, FL; Charlotte, NC; briefly in LA; NYC and New Jersey. We moved for better employment opportunities for my parents but I’m happy to say STL is my “home.” Not sure if I will live here my whole life, but it’s a lovely place to live 99% of the time.

2. How would you classify your clothing style?
I’ve been told that I’m Connecticut Preppy with a touch of hippie-infused style. If you ask me, Monday-Friday I’d say Classic/Preppy (for work of course) and on the weekends a bit more hippie-ish. I’m comfortable in my clothes and tastes.

3. What kind of car do you drive?
2007 Honda Accord. Probably the best car I’ve owned yet.

4. What would your dream home look like if you could have it (or already do!)?
Wow, that’s a tough one. Probably something like this, at least for now since I’m in a winter + Christmas mood. (Though honestly, it depends on what city/state I live in. I’d love a city house, like a brownstone walk-up, but I’m also partial to sprawling country houses with white fences, lots of land for dogs and maybe kids.)

5. Do you have kids, and if so, how many and how old were you when you had them?
Um, no. But I do have a dog, does that count? He’s 6, so I was 21 when I adopted him.

6. What is your favorite hobby?
In the winter = reading.
The rest of the time = exercising.

7. Are you going to have any New Year’s resolutions for 2011?
Eh, I had a bunch last year and totally didn’t stick with them so as of right now, probably not. Maybe just a simple intention for the year and I’ll leave it at that.

8. What is something, if anything, that you’d want to change about yourself?
Caring what others think of me. It’s exhausting and very unnecessary.

9. What is something that you love about yourself?
My ability to laugh/find humor/the sliver lining in most situations.

10. Pick one of the following: Someone to cook for you, someone to do your laundry, or someone to do your dishes.
Someone to do my dishes. That’s my least favorite.

Also, take a moment to check out the lovely LaMidge’s blog; she’s featuring me on her blog this month as part of a “monthly push” to spread the word of some her favorite bloggers. If you don’t read her and aren’t friends with her, you’re totally missing out! (And please give her kudos for making the fabulous Walking with Nora button that you see on her site too! I hope to have it live on here in the next few weeks as well.)

Grace in Small Things: Week Ten

13 Nov

* Best friends who email with me during the week talking about everything from careers to boys, TV shows to pets and everything in between. Somtimes you really need a shoulder to lean on, a different perspective, or words of encouragement.

* Hugs from the kids in the neighborhood that I babysit for. Even though I haven’t seen them in awhile the fact that they remember my name and take time from their play schedule to talk to me is pretty amazing.

* Raking 17 bags of leaves and feeling accomplished even though more leaves inevitably fall.

* Falling asleep listening to Ray LaMontagne.

* Jack cuddles, which are more prominent now that it’s a bit cooler outside.

* Discovering that I have no late fees at the library when I was sure that I would have one… this also meant that I borrowed three books.

* Snail mail containing birth announcements = pictures of cute babies = win all around.

What little things made you smile this past week?

Ten on Tuesday (v51)

26 Oct

It’s time for Ten on Tuesday! Thanks to Chelsea for hosting; feel free to join in on the fun in the comments or on your own blog!

 1. What is your favorite decor item in your house?
That’s a tough one; I’d have to say my black and white framed pictures/photos of New York City.

2. What is your favorite hair product?
Well, I just fell in love with Aveda products thanks to my new hair stylist. The “Color Conserve” conditioner is fabulous as is the “Gloss Straightener” that helps me with the whole blow drying/straightening my hair thing. Sadly it’s incredibly expensive so not sure how long I can keep up the product usage.

3. Are you a good dancer?
Classically, yes! I took tap, ballet, jazz and modern dance from age three until early high school. I’m not a terrible slow dancer either as I taught cotillion for a few years. As for dancing to rap music and etc, I’ve been told by guys that I dance too fast, whatever that means, but I have fun doing it!

4. You get some good news, who’s the first person you call?
Hmmm. Either my mom or if I’m in a relationship, I’d call him.

5. Would you rather take pictures, or be in pictures?
Take!  However I’m learning to enjoy parties and memories more so lately I’m in more pictures than usual.

6. What is your shoe style?
A combo of flats and heels, mostly leaning towards flats lately… and boots! Especially since it’s fall. I love my boots.

7. How often do you eat out?
Once a week for dinner and usually once a week for lunch. I try not to eat out too much to save money and of course the waistline! That may change based upon the social schedule but I get really tired of eating out on a regular basis.

8. If someone has food in their teeth, do you tell them?
Always. Treat others as you’d like to be treated. I’d prefer that someone tell me if I have something in my teeth, so yup, I’ll point it out.

9. Do you fold your underwear?
Nope. No point. I probably have the messiest underwear drawer ever.

10. Milk, dark, or white chocolate?
Depends! Milk most of the time, sometimes dark.

Things I’ve Decided

4 Oct

* Someone should really come up with a way for bloggers to be paid to meet their fellow blog friends.

* The sound of my dog Jack snoring is one of the cutest sounds in the world; cute enough that I don’t mind if he’s sleeping on my newly washed comforter.

* I have to see Ray LaMontagne in concert next time he comes to STL.

* I will no longer feel guilty about sleeping in on the weekends.

* As much as I love training for races, like my upcoming 10k, I really hate that my physical fitness is tied so tightly to a schedule. I’m a gym rat by nature but I like to do things when I want to, not because I have to.

* 38 degrees in October is too darn cold.

* The days that you look messy are the days you will run into cute guys. It’s just a fact.

* Sometimes the best weekends consist of no plans whatsoever. This leads to lots of laughs, naps, catching up household chores, with friends and leaving you feeling truly rested on Sunday evening.

* The kindness and generosity of the people I have met through this blog will never ever cease to amaze me.

* People look at you just a bit differently when they notice you have a nose ring. Mostly good different (so far).

* I will be having a total guilt-free, laze-about, movie-marathon, dessert-baking weekend when mygrad school finals are turned in.

* Now that I’m 27 I don’t feel any different at all.

* I would love to meet my future husband at a Dave Matthews Band concert.

What have you decided recently?

It’s True, I Do.
